The Program:

Led by a hospitality industry veteran and the Hospitality Industry Attorney of the Year who has seen the ups and downs of the economy over the years, Jonathan Howe, general counsel for Meeting Professionals International, will address those issues that impact most vibrantly planners and suppliers today. The economy is on the skids, public perception of meetings, events and incentives is at an all time low and do you know what you are going to do to cope with all of this?

Attendees will learn about:

  • How to deal with these troubling times and its impact upon all in the hospitality industry, from a legal point of view

  • How to mitigate your groups' pending cancellation/attrition issue

  • Potential legal implications of using social networks in your programs

  • Standard force majeure clauses, and the amount of protection in the event of unexpected health and safety issues

The Speaker:

JONATHAN T. HOWE, ESQ. is the President/Senior Partner of Howe & Hutton, Ltd., a law firm with offices in Chicago, St. Louis and Washington, D.C. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University, and his Juris Doctorate with highest distinction from Duke University where he was first in his graduating class.

He serves as general counsel for Meeting Professionals International and the International Special Events Society, among others. He also is general counsel for the Society of Incentive and Travel Executives and for the prestigious Association Committee of 100 sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is a fellow and member of the International Forum of Travel and Tourism Advocates. He is a founder, immediate past President and board member of the Academy of Hospitality Industry Attorneys and was the inaugural recipient of the “Hospitality Industry Attorney of the Year”. He is the legal editor for MEETINGS & CONVENTIONS and ONE+ – The official journal of MPI. He is the special advisor to the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Meetings and Travel, and also served as the first chair of the Convention Industry Council APEX panel on industry contracts.

He is the recipient of the prestigious Meeting Professionals International Industry Award for his service to and advancement of the meetings industry. The Chicago Area Chapter of MPI awarded Jon its industry award for his dedicated and significant contribution to the meetings industry. On its 15th anniversary of publishing, he was named by MEETING NEWS as one of 15 leaders who have made the difference in the meetings industry. He is also a Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives. The Chicago Society of Association Executives selected Jon as its Associate Member of the Year. Since 1995 when MEETING NEWS began to list the 25 most influential people in the meetings industry, Jon has been named almost every year. He was recently named to the BizBash Media Hall of Fame. The Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International honored Jon as the recipient of its HSMAI Foundation PaceSetters Award for vision and cutting edge accomplishments that have inspired countless others to think “outside the box.” He is one of the few lawyers in the United States to have argued before the United States Supreme Court.

The Chambers-Grant Salon is an extraordinary 11,600 square foot space in the beautifully renovated Ellie Caulkins Opera House that is available for a plethora of events; Wine Tastings, Fund-raisers, Bat and Bar Mitzvahs, Wedding Receptions, Lectures, Presentations, Anniversaries, Pre-theater Galas and more. The “Salon” is an opulent space with twinkling fiber optic ceilings, exposed stone walls, bright costumes in large shadow boxes, Audiovisual capabilities, stage, contemporary furnishings, fine china, silver and glassware and artwork galore from Colorado artist Vance Kirkland. Also know that as your guests descend the marble staircase into the Salon, the first impression is continuously one of awe with audible “ooohs and ahhhs.”

Parking and Directions:

With several RTD bus stops in close proximity to the performing arts complex, and a light rail stop located at the Colorado Convention Center, patrons can easily take advantage of Denver’s mass transit options. For route and schedule information, visit www.rtd-denver.com.

The eight-story, DPAC parking garage is located onsite and can accommodate 1,700 vehicles. Garage entrances are located on Arapahoe and 13th Streets. Additional parking is available at the Colorado Convention Center Parking Garage located at Speer Blvd and Champa Street, just 2 blocks South of the DPAC garage.

Driving Directions:

  • From the Airport (East): From the Denver International Airport (DIA) take Pena Blvd. W. approximately 9 miles to I-70 West. Travel on I-70 West and exit onto I-25 South. From I-25, exit at Speer Blvd (Exit 212). Turn left (south) on Speer Blvd. to Arapahoe Street and turn left. The DPAC parking garage is on your immediate right, between Speer and 14th Streets.

  • From the West: Take I-70 East to I-25 South toward downtown Denver. From I-25 exit at Speer Blvd (Exit 212). Take Speer Blvd. South to Arapahoe Street and turn left. The DPAC parking garage is on your immediate right between Speer and 14th Streets.

  • From the South: Take I-25 North toward downtown Denver to the Speer Blvd. Exit. Exit on Speer Blvd (Exit 212) and turn left (south). Follow Speer for approximately one mile to Arapahoe Street. Turn left on Arapahoe and the DPAC parking garage is on your immediate right between Speer and 14th Streets.

  • From the North: Take I-25 South toward downtown Denver to the Speer Blvd. Exit. Exit on Speer Blvd (Exit 212) and turn left (south). Follow Speer for approximately one mile to Arapahoe Street. Turn left on Arapahoe and the DPAC parking garage is on your immediate right between Speer and 14th Streets.
